Woven wire mesh and the making process
I make each of my sculptures freehand, sculpting the mesh in the air, based
on life models and photographs. There is no moulding or solid master, so each
piece is a unique sculpture.
I discovered wire mesh in my search to escape the solidity of conventional
sculpture materials. For me it perfectly reflects the magical duality of our
bodies - the ability to express the intangible self through physical form.
Commissions
Because the making process is direct and spontaneous, it is particularly suitable
for individual commissions. I can make figures (or animals) to suit specific
sites in house or garden or for commercial purposes. I also do commissioned
body portraits.
Some questions answered
My small and medium sized relief figures are mounted on MDF block panels
which are recessed on the reverse, so hang perfectly flush against the wall.Larger
pieces are free hanging, attached invisibly to the wall.
As I make all the sculptures individually, any of those shown can be made in
any of the sizes to commission.
I normally use mild steel mesh for indoor sculptures. For outdoors,
there are a variety of weatherproof metals or finishes. Patinated copper
is ideal for a dark finish. Other options include galvanized or stainless
steel for a lighter or bright metal finish or various industrial finishes.
Prices range from around £700 for figures mounted on 63 cm
high boards. Please contact me for more details, to order a sculpture or to
